A selection of Roman glass vessels. Each a tall Roman glass unguentarium of a the candlestick type, in translucent glass; wide rim, the tall neck merging into a bulbous body, standing on a flattened base with an inverted centre.

A selection of Roman glass vessels. Each a tall Roman glass unguentarium of a the candlestick type, in translucent glass; wide rim, the tall neck merging into a bulbous body, standing on a flattened base with an inverted centre.

A)  Height 15.5 cm, in pale green glass; area of encrustation;

This type of flasks was used to store the costly oils and unguents, which were available in the Roman Empire; the contents of such bottles could be poured slowly in tiny drops, and the small mouth was easily stoppered.

Condition: Fine. Complete and intact with some surface encrustations.

Eastern Roman Empire: circa 2nd-3rd century A.D.
