Full Description
Northern Wei Buddha Tile
AD 386- 535
Creviced wall tile with Buddha standing wearing long flowing monastic robes with hands positioned in a variation of 'Abhaya murda' whereby both palms face outwards, the right hand faces upwards and the left hand faces downwards, a display of fearlessness in the face of adversity and enjoining others to do so. Features atypical of Buddha-large almond shaped eyes, elongated triangular nose and serene smile, flanked by pair of elongated ears and surmounted by usnisa.
