Full Description
Large Han Dynasty Soldier
206 BC-AD 220
Imposing terracotta soldier with grey slip and applied pigments; Stands with feet apart, rooted firmly to the floor; Right arm is crooked at the elbow with the hand clenched into a fist and drilled for standard; Left arm hangs loose by side, the hand similarly clenched and drilled. Wears long-flowing white tunic with red and black decorative hems over white silken trousers and black boots, a breastplate over the top. Triangular shaped head with moulded and crisply delineated features with excellent pigment remaining-the red of the lips, black of the piercing eyes, the elongated curving brows, beard and moustache; Hair is fastened atop the head, beneath a black closely fitting cap with red seam.
A lovely example of the type with a superb level of facial detailing remaining.
