Redware Lamp with Rooster
Hayes type II; Carandini et al. form X A1 a; 5th Century AD
Redware lamp with glossy slip; The sunken central discus showing stylized cockerel standing right, its body filled with dots and tongues; Motif on shoulder of quatrefoils, hearts in outline filled with dots and concentric diamonds with circles and granules at centre, terminating at either end in pin-wheel. Tapering channel with rounded nozzle and large wick hole; Lug handle.
