Full Description
Large Faience Wadj Sceptre
Late Dynastic Period, 715-332 BC
Large green glazed faience wadj sceptre, or papyrus scroll; In the round, the shaft characteristically sags and head spreads. Green was the colour of new life and resurrection, exemplified by the papyrus plant; It was intended in wearing this amulet the possessor was guaranteed rejuvenation, also linking them with the great protective goddesses associated with the sceptre.
cf. Petrie, 1994, 20c.
