    Sweet Magna Graecian Lekanis

    Southern Italy, 4th Century BC

    Lidded Lekanis; Pale-tan clay with black slip and red and yellow additions; Shallow-bowl with cylindrical stem and bell-shaped foot, black gloss over whole; Conical-form lid with red-figure heads of young male and female in left profile; The female wears her hair tied up in a sakkos, male wears a fillet; Flanked on either side by crescentic-form palmette; Short concave-sided neck with trapezium-sectioned handle with applied black tongues arranged in radial fashion around a central cavity.

    A sweet piece with an excellent depiction.
