Magna Graecian Epichysis with Reclining "Lady of Fashion"

c. 4th Century BC

Southern Italian epichysis; Mid-tan clay with glossy black slip and applied red, white and yellow additions; Concave-sided drum body with applied white laurel motif; Domed shoulder with red-figure draped female reclining left, in one hand holding phiale and in the other a branch; Rosette, concentric circle and ovolo in the field; An elaborate symmetrical palmette complex flanking female on either side; Applied red tongues to base of neck; Medusa-head terminals at point of split between spout and high-arched handle.
