A Roman glass sprinkler flask showing consistant spiralised decoration and lovely iridescence. 

Sprinkler flasks like this are identified by the small inner-disk at the bottom of the neck. This disk has one small hole to allow precious liquids to be used sparingly. This liquid was most likely perfumed oil for beautification. Glass was the perfect material to store such liquids as it is not porus. 

The spiral pattern is beautifully subtle and was made when the glass was formed in a fluted mould. They would have removed the mould and inflated the glass slightly, then the glass would have twisted slightly to...

NB. The vessel has some earthly encrustation inside it, alongside a piece of very iridescent glass and small flakes of glass.
