A fine Roman terra sigillata piriform jug on a flanged foot and with everted lip in red-slip ware. The handle is moulded with a leafy spray at each side of a ridge. The decoration consists of five appliques that show on one side a running boar and on the other a running rabbit, with tree palm-fronds as dividers. 

Terra sigillata is a type of fine red Roman pottery with glossy surface slip made in specific areas of the Roman Empire. Usually roughly translated as 'sealed earth', the meaning of 'terra sigillata' is 'clay bearing little images'.
