A Byzantine carnelian seal featuring an insribed christogram. The familiar Greek letters of XP have been displayed vertically, intersecting each other to form the recognisable Christian symbol. This christogram uses a further two letters from the Greek form of Jesus Christ, XPICTOC. The final letters of Christ's name, OC, have also been included. Two circles, one plain and one dotted, enclose the letter. The two circles represent wreaths, which in turn symbolised the victory of Christs resurrection over death. The back of the intaglio has been left plain.
