The Canaanites were a group of ancient Semitic peoples. They lived in the ancient Levant from the Early Bronze Age through to the first centuries of the Common Era. Like other people of the Near East, Canaanite religious beliefs were polytheistic.
Scarce Canaanite Bronze Figure Of A God
A Canaanite bronze figure of a god, standing frontal with straight legs, and with arms raised to the level of the shoulders. This is a posture of power, further emphasised by the strong facial expression and slight incline of the head. The head is modelled with a prominent nose, full cheeks, and large rounded eyes. He wears ear ornaments and his hair/wig hangs in a straight line down the back. The figure has a slim, flat body with thickening around the buttocks.
Condition: Complete, with good dark-patinated metal. There are some cuprous depoits which are stable, with encrustations.
