Garment fasteners, such as belts, were often worn to secure the tunic in Anglo-Saxon fashions. Regardless of social status, men and women dressed alike in Anglo-Saxon culture, though the most elaborate belt equipment was more commonly associated with men than with women. Most Anglo-Saxon belt buckles were made from bronze or iron, were small in size and plain in design; sometimes, however, they featured a metal mount for decoration.
