During Iron Age in Iran, various regional cultures were known for producing zoomorphic potteries, imitating the style and decorative motif of paralleled metal wares of the same period. Among these cultures, Luristan artisans were credited for their creative imagination and sensitive aesthetic taste in rendering the elegant curves of metal prototypes with clay materials. Terracotta vessels, such as this fine example, might have been used as ritual objects or during funerary banquets.
