The second millennium BC marks the transition from the Middle to the Late Bronze Age, and was a period dominated by Babylonia and Egypt. The first half of the millennium enjoyed fairly peaceful rule, and the Pharaohs and their contemporary Kings of Babylon took delight in art and architecture. Into the second half of the millennium, however, warfare and violence were rife, following the Hyksos sweeping into Egypt, and the Hittites invading Mesopotamia. Babylonia managed to stay relatively clear of conflict, as it was considered to be the world’s religious and intellectual capital. It is common to see Babylonian weights in the form of ducks.
